Menstruation

Periodic Reality

For billions of women and girls worldwide, menstruation is a periodic (monthly) reality. Yet, people in many countries still face serious challenges when it comes to managing their periods. Myths, stigma and harmful gender norms around menstruation exacerbates the difficulties for girls and women across the world.

Proper Management

How does menstruation affect lives?

Menstruation has enormous tendencies to interrupt daily life, if not properly managed. Adolescents especially, experience extremely painful periods that can affect their attendance and performance in school. A lack of adequate facilities and materials, restrictions on girls’ movements during such sessions and feeling ashamed of being untidy also contributes to girls skipping school.

Taboos, myths, and legends surrounding menstruation can lead to teasing, shaming and exclusion from daily activities, which may introduce negative psychological effects.
